Way back in November 2024, Julie Smale had the bright idea of creating a Wall Hanging for the Village Hall. This would show notable places in our lovely village and help reduce the noise levels - as well as displaying the talents of our Craft Group.
But she had no idea of how much blood, sweat & tears it would take to acheive this!
But,15 months later, things were beginning to come together! Who knew we had so much talent in the Craft Group - we should be so proud of all their hard work!
The panels were created by the following members of the Craft Group:
The Village Hall by Helen Elliott with input from Kate Smith (our Craft Group leader) The Old Rectory by Mary Burrows. St Andrew’s church by Dianne Buckingham, St Andrew’s School by Helen Paton, The Mill by Jan Mclean and lastly, the Millennium Green by Julie Smale. Chris James even did 2 panels for us – The Green Man & Clifton Hall!
Another craft group member - Mavis Mills – asked her friend Joyce McAllister (who is not even in our Craft Group!) to kindly sew our names on the central panel.
Julie had a few sleepless nights, thinking “why on earth did I suggest this?” and how were they going to sew all the panels together?! The weight and size alone were going to be an issue.
Then Kevin Moore (brother-in-Law of Pat Moore, our esteemed Village Hall Chairman) came to our rescue.
We owe him a huge debt of gratitude!
It took him over 20 hours to just pin it all in place and goodness knows how many more hours to sew it all together! Then he decided to re-do the right-hand side as he wasn't completely happy with it. Bless him!
Here are Kate & Mary revealing his impressive handywork!
Then Julie had to think about how to fix it to the wall!
More sleepless nights, until Mark Buckingham kindly came forward to help.
Here is Mark (on the ladder) with the help of Dianne & Martin Smale wrangling it into place!
The BIG DAY arrived for the unveiling!!!
What a great turn-out we had at the Village Hall on Easter Monday (6 April, 2026) for the unveiling of our Craft Group Wall Hanging.
This is not just another Craft Group project, it’s about our village, our community - places in the village which you know and love - and which bind us together. We hope that this will remain here for many, many, years, for the enjoyment of all who use our excellent Village Hall.
